School History

The school proudly bears the names of Patricia and the late William Bathgate, longtime, esteemed residents of the South Orange County community. Their dedicated commitment to Bathgate Elementary School during its formative years--through countless hours of volunteer work, PTA involvement and community service--stimulated teachers, staff, and parents to establish and maintain a remarkable standard of excellence and service.

This tradition lives on through the school’s character education program, “Character Counts!” which nurtures character development, good citizenship, and responsibility. It teaches children right from wrong and that their success and happiness depends on who they are, not what they have or look like. It enforces the “Six Pillars of Character” by rewarding good behavior and discouraging bad behavior by imposing fair, consistent consequences. “Character Counts!” encourages children to model good behavior in everything they say and do.

The Bathgate school community shares the common goal of nurturing well-rounded, ethical children who will blossom to become responsible adults and leaders of our community, state, and nation.
